Support The Combined Cadet Force at Watson’s

Combined Cadet Force ARCHIVE PIC

We are delighted to announce that George Watson’s College will be hosting the foundation of the South Edinburgh Schools’ Combined Cadet Force (SESCCF) next session.

Eventually this will be open to pupils from George Watson’s College and all local schools with staff also being drawn from those schools. We hope it will become a very successful example of how schools can work with each other and with other agencies to expand the horizons and experiences of young people and encourage them to respect each other as equals, irrespective of their differences.

This initiative has had the very enthusiastic assistance of the Ministry of Defence and the personal support of the three Service Chiefs in Scotland. The contingent will initially be founded with an Army section which will proudly wear the cap badge of the Scottish and Northern Irish Yeomanry (SNIY) with which the school already has many connections and which enjoys the Freedom of the City of Edinburgh.

Inevitably, although the MoD does provide support and some modest funding, the establishment of a CCF comes at a cost to the school. We therefore need to raise £20,000 to allow us to put in place the logistics necessary to launch the South Edinburgh Schools’ CCF. As membership grows and other schools come on board, the CCF should become self supporting but this initial 'seed funding' will be crucial to its success. If you can help, your contribution will be greatly appreciated and can be made using the donation form below.

Thank you, as ever, for your support of the school.
