I used to be driven past George Watson’s College as a young girl in my grandfather’s car, and as we passed by, he would tell me of his wish that I attend Watson’s in future. I never dreamed that this might be possible.
When my mum was deciding where I should be sent to school, she saw an advert for Watson’s that mentioned the bursary support that was available. This made my grandfather’s dream for me a possibility.
Sadly my grandfather passed away just after I made my application and he never had the chance to drive me into, rather than simply past, the school.
I was so proud of myself when I was offered a Foundation bursary place at Watson’s. For being able to get into such an incredible school and for being able to do something that my grandfather wanted me to do. This was an opportunity that I never thought would be possible so I made up my mind that this would be the start of a journey that would be bigger than I ever imagined.
Being at George Watson’s College gave me confidence and, through taking part in some of the many clubs, I really found my voice.
"I found that there was a huge amount of freedom here, when it comes to sports, when it comes to extra-curricular, when it comes to music and in the classroom itself – at Watson’s there really are no limits. Here, you can be whoever you want to be."Amy Allard-Dunbar, Foundationer, Class of 2015
