After spending several years teaching in, what was then, one of the more deprived areas of Edinburgh, Linda joined the staff of George Watson’s College in 1985. Over her 27 year career at the school, she taught most year groups in the Junior School and held several promoted posts. She was appointed Head of the Junior School in 2007.
On retirement, she was invited to become a Governor of the Compass School in Haddington. This is a role she continues to enjoy greatly and is particularly pleased to have opportunities there for direct involvement with children, for example leading Assemblies twice a term.
She is married to Jim, a retired Chartered Surveyor and former international rugby referee. Their two children came through the school from Nursery onwards. Their daughter is now Deputy Head Teacher in another of Edinburgh’s independent schools and their son is a partner in one of the city’s Law firms.
A graduate of Edinburgh University, Linda has an MA in History and a PGDE. She was also one of the first in the country to gain the Scottish Qualification for Headship. She enjoys music, reading and travel -– when grandparent duties for her three grandchildren allow, that is!
