The School offers a number of Choirs for pupils to take part in.
The Boy’s Choir was formed in August 2011 by an S6 pupil who wanted to encourage boys to enjoy singing together. It is still flourishing and includes over 30 boy singers. Recent repertoire has included a Tribute to Queen, a medley of Stevie Wonder Songs and Soul Man.
Cantemus is a small group of Senior School female singers (in S3–S6) whose primary aim is to develop sight-singing skills within the context of a small ensemble. Membership is by invitation only. The group has performed in concerts in School and also in St Giles’ Cathedral in Edinburgh. Recent repertoire has included works by Benjamin Britten and arrangements of popular songs.

The Chamber Choir is an auditioning SATB choir of pupils from S3 to S6. They have sung Evensong at Morningside Parish Church and Dunfermline Abbey, and take part in the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols at St Giles’ Cathedral each year. In addition, the choir regularly perform at large and small-scale concerts in School. The Chamber Choir also represents the School at many outside events, such as the St Andrew’s Day Service in St Cuthbert’s Church and Kirking of the Master of the Royal Company of Merchants of the City of Edinburgh, and also performed at the ceremony at which Sir Chris Hoy was given the Freedom of the City of Edinburgh. The choir regularly goes on concert tours with the Caritas Strings, in recent years touring Slovenia, Poland and northern Italy.
College Chorus is a large SATB choir open to all pupils in S3 – S6. Pupils in S3–S6 are welcome to join the choir without audition and those studying Music in the curriculum are actively encouraged to do so. Sopranos and Altos rehearse separately from Tenors and Basses at the starts of terms only coming together for final rehearsals before a performance. Each year the choir leads the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols at St Giles’ Cathedral and performs a major choral work at the Spring Concert in March. In recent years repertoire has included Vivaldi's Gloria, Chilcott’s The Making of the Drum and a medley from Les Misérables. In March 2017 they led the choir in A Book of Blessings by Mr Steven Griffin, in which they were joined by parents, staff, friends and pupils to swell the sound!
Ex Corde Choir caters for singers in S1 and S2. The choir sings a variety of repertoire which mixes classical pieces with pop arrangements. Pupils in S1 and S2 who enjoy singing can join the choir without audition. There are approximately 70 singers in the choir. They perform at various School concerts during the year and also take part in the annual Service of Nine Lessons and Carols at St Giles’ Cathedral.
Galleon Singers is a small auditioned choir primarily for pupils in S1 and S2 who would like an additional choral experience. The choir performs a wide variety of music including arrangements of pop music, film soundtracks and classical pieces. The group also provides an opportunity for boys with changing voices (up to S3) to be part of a performing ensemble and gives them a chance to continue singing. The choir performs in many concerts throughout the year, and is involved in the annual Service of Nine Lessons and Carols at St Giles’ Cathedral. Recent repertoire has included arrangements of Evermore from Beauty and the Beast, City of Stars from La La Land, and a rendition of the Beatles song Eleanor Rigby, arranged by one of our singers.
