World Solo Drumming Prizes For Watson's

One of our finalists practising prior to the eventOn Saturday 22 October, The Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association held the World Solo Drumming Championships and also their inaugural International Solo Tenor Drumming Competition at Glasgow Caledonian University.

Watson's drummers excelled in the Junior tenor drum category with Cameron Anderson (S1) winning first prize. Lisa Thomson (S4) came third and Elizabeth Fraser (S2) finished in fourth place, giving an excellent set of results for our tenor drummers.

The snare drummers then took centre stage at the World Solo Drumming Championships. This event attracts players from throughout the world, including Canada, USA, and New Zealand, as well as a strong representation from Scotland and Northern Ireland.

In the U13 category Louis Bendle (S2) came third, while Jem Tatar (S3) and Oliver Brown (S2) also qualifying for the final, from the morning heats, against very strong competition.

In the U16 Category, Fraser Hood (S6) was placed fourth, Cameron Spence (S4) was fifth, while Angus Coull (S4) also made it through to the final from the morning qualify heats. George Watson's College was the only pipe band that had three representatives in any of the various finals on the day.
