Our Pipes & Drums came away from the World Pipe Band Championships yesterday with three world championship titles.
However this year's championship wins were notable for three reasons. The Novice Juvenile Drummers became world champions for the fifth year in succession, while the Juvenile Drummers won for the second year in succession. The Juvenile Band won for the first time since 2002 against a strong international field, including bands from as far away as Canada and New Zealand.
The bands' performances were witnessed by around 40,000 people who braved the wet weather conditions and attended the event. Bob Winter, the Lord Provost of Glasgow commenting on the calibre of the competitors said, 'Despite the weather, we've enjoyed outstanding performances from the world's finest pipers'.
A documentary on the event was filmed and will be broadcast on BBC One at 5.45pm on Sunday 19 August.
