The beginning of the new session sees George Watson's College welcoming its new Principal, only the fourth since the consolidation of the School on its Colinton Road site in 1974. Melvyn Roffe was previously Principal of Wymondham College, Norfolk, England's largest state boarding school. An English teacher by training, Mr Roffe's previous career has included service in prominent independent schools in England and Wales and Chairmanship of the Boarding Schools' Association.
Commenting on his appointment, Melvyn Roffe said: "I am hugely honoured to be taking the helm of such a wonderful school, the academic, sporting and cultural excellence of which is so widely acknowledged. Watson's is also a friendly school and my adoption into the Watson's "family" has been warm and generous. I look forward to the challenges and opportunities of leading the School through the next stage of its development. These are exciting times for Scotland and I am sure that the qualities of a Watson's education will only grow in relevance and significance in the coming years."
