Despite ominous dark clouds, the weather was kind to us this morning when the entire Junior School from Nursery to Primary 7, along with staff, took to the Myreside grandstand pitch to take part in a huge sponsored Wake Up Watson's aerobics session in aid of the George Watson's Family Foundation. In all nearly 1000 people took part in what has become an annual occurrence.
As with the inaugural event last year, the aerobics session was led by Mrs Kath Grandison, Principal Teacher in the Upper Primary, who encouraged those who were taking part, including many parents in the Grandstand itself, from her elevated position on the groundsmen's trailer.
The session lasted nearly 45 minutes, with a total of 10 musically diverse numbers - from Cheryl Cole, Alexandra Burke and Lady Gaga to The Birdie Dance and the Macarena.
Mrs Grandison already holds Wake Up Watson's classes before school twice a week for Upper Primary pupils, to wake them up ready for their lessons.
The two areas of school life that Wake Up Watson's will support are:
- Short-term fee assistance for current parents
- A wooden structure to provide an outdoor performance area for the Junior School.
