U18 Girls – Scottish Schools' Champions (UPDATE)

Hazel Hall in Scottish Schools' Hockey Cup FinalOur U18 Girls' became the Scottish Schools' Champions following the finals at Peffermill yesterday, for the third time in five years.

It was a very exciting yet tense day coupled with some rather extreme weather – high winds, snow and hail.

The girls started slowly in the group stages: drawing with Kelvinside (0–0); beating Kelso (1–0); and then beating Millburn Academy (4–0). We qualified second in our group to Kelvinside and progressed to play the Group 1 winners – Hutchesons' Grammar (last year's winners and our arch rivals) in the semi finals.

Hutchesons' scored first but within a minute, we equalised through a goal from Natalie Binnie (S6). The game was decided by penalty strokes. Following a very nervous 10 minutes, we won 3–2 on penalty flicks.

We played Kelvinside in the final, and despite the girls having played over two hours of hockey they were outstanding and won the game 1–0 - a single goal, from Hazel Hall (S6) was enough to bring the cup back to Watson's for the third time in five years.

A fantastic climax to the season – unbeaten all year with only two full matches and two 7s tournaments to play.

This weekend the team travel to Blackpool where they will play the top English teams, as well as the British Colleges select team.
