close up of boy carrying rugby ballOur U14 Sevens team has won the U14 competitions at two tournaments in just three days – the Merchiston Castle Sevens on Sunday 9 March and the Stewart’s Melville College competition on Tuesday 11 March.

The Merchiston Sevens culminated in a thrilling final against Stewart’s Melville, with GWC captained by Nick Hurn. This win is the first time we have won at this age level and it prevented Merchiston making a clean sweep in their own competition at all three levels of U18, U15 and U14.

Just two days later, the team triumphed again at Stewart’s Melville when they took on a tough Edinburgh Academy team in the final, captained by Ramsay Young. Here they appeared even stronger with a magnificent performance that focused on powerful and effective tackling and dynamic try-scoring despite very worthy competition. Not a single point was conceded to the opposition for the entire tournament.

Ramsay Young was awarded ‘Man of the Tournament’. His trophy was presented by Gary Heatly, of Scrum magazine, the sponsor of the award. However, the entire squad and Mr Richard Snedden, their coach, are to be commended for their tenacious spirit and co-operative teamwork and Euan McKean for fantastic kicking in extremely difficult conditions. All in all this has been a really successful fusion of boys from S2 and S3, who do not normally play together.

The GWC U15 team made a great showing at the Stewart's Melville competition and came in as much-deserved runners-up.
