For many athletes this year's season culminated at the Scottish Championships, a three-day event held annually at Strathclyde Park. It also doubles up as National Team Selection for the Home International Regatta in July.
Friday saw our older pupils racing in the Time Trials of Open Pairs and Open Single Sculls to determine semi-final ranking for the days to come. Fergus Mainland (S6) qualified for the A/B semis in the single and Anna Buchanan (S4) made it into the A/B semis. Fergus and Euan Dickerson (S6) raced with their respective pairs partners and both qualified their boats into the C/D semi-finals.
Challenging conditions due to high winds saw several young events cancelled, resulting in some of our crews being unable to race. That being said, Anna won gold in the WJ16 1x and WJ15 1x, silver in the WJ15 2x and bronze in the WJ18 1x and was the 3rd fastest Junior Woman Sculler, Robyn Douglas (S2) won WJ13 1x and Rory Mainland (S3) won J14 1x. Saturday also saw our WJ15 4x+ take bronze. Fergus ultimately placed 7th overall in the single, and 4th fastest Junior Sculler, winning the 'B' final. Saturday culminated with silver in the J16 Quad and Fergus and Euan winning gold with Ruairi Potter (S5) in the Junior Quads in a composite crew.
Due to deteriorating weather conditions, much of Sunday's racing was done in a Time Trial format. The medals came from a composite WJ15 2x who took silver, and our WJ14 4x+ (Robyn Douglas, Isla Sinnot, Honey Hughes and Imogen Blain, all S2) took gold. Euan and his pairs partner just edged out Fergus and his partner, Alex Chisholm (Class of 2016) in their Open Pair semi-final, however, a final ranking was not possible due to racing being cancelled.
The provisional National Team announcement is expected imminently, and in the meantime, our senior girls will be racing at Henley Women's Regatta and the boys at Marlow Regatta.
