Girl swimmingSaturday 29 January was again a very successful day for Watson's swimmers at the Scottish Schools Swimming Championships, held at Tollcross pool, Glasgow. Several junior and senior pupils reached a national final, some even breaking national records.

In the morning Zachary Courtney (P6) started the day with a 5th place in the U12 Boys' 50m Backstroke - a fantastic achievement as Zac still has another year in this age group. He was then followed by an outstanding swim from Robyn Matthews (S2) in the 13/14 Girls' 100m Breaststroke. Robyn broke the British record in her heat but managed to then break her own record in the final to take home the gold medal. Ewan Chalmers, Lara Green (S5) and Scott O'Hagan (S5) also swam well in their events.

The afternoon session provided even more excitement with Mairi Drummond (P7) coming 9th in the Girls' 50m Butterfly, Ewan Johnston 8th in the Boys' 400m Freestyle and Daniel Lee (S2) 4th in the Boys' 13/14 100m Backstroke. Both the Girls' 12/under Freestyle Relay Team (Flora Pollok P7, Kirsty Pyper P6, Ailsa Small P5 and Mairi Drummond P7) and the Boys' 12/under Freestyle Relay Team (Zachary Courtney P6, Danny Clink P7, Fraser Humphries P6 and Euan Kerr P7) swam closely fought finals, bringing home bronze medals.
