Ben receives his gold medalThis weekend at the Scottish Indoor Rowing Championships at Heriot-Watt University our rowers brought home some medals.

Ben Carruthers (S3) not only won the gold medal in the J14 event, but his performance was recognised as the best by a Junior athlete at the whole event.  His distance of over 1150metres in 4 minutes (a new unofficial Scottish indoor record) was a full 60m ahead of the silver medallist, our S2 pupil, Fergus Mainland, beating a field of 24 athletes from Scotland and the North of England. He received a trophy plaque to award his effort, in addition to his medal.

Other medals were won by Finlay Middlemiss (S1) – gold in the Boys' J12; Hannah Knowles (S2) – silver in the Girls' J13; Blair Ketteringham (S4) – bronze in the Boys' J16 and Eleanor Marlow (S5) – bronze in the Girls' J18.

Watson's also picked up team medals in the Boys' J16 relay (gold in an unopposed win); Boys' Open Junior relay (silver); silver in both the Boys' and Girls' J15 relay, in spite of both teams competing a year above their age group; and bronze in the Mixed J15 relay.
