In addition to the Skiing, Swimming and Rowing stories previously reported this month, our pupils have enjoyed a number of successes across a range of sports.
Rifle Club: British Champions!
Isabel Stark, Magnus Carswell and Sam Coates (all S6) represented the Scottish Junior Team during the Junior International Week at Bisley. Isabel won the Women’s 50M Prone Grand Prix , and was part of the A Team along with former pupil Georgia Gooch, who won Bronze medals. As a result of her excellent performance, Isabel was selected for the GB Junior Team to shoot against the USA , Australia , New Zealand and South Africa.
At the weekend Rory Donaldson (S4) and Lucy Richards (S3) joined in, to compete as a school team. Isabel won two competitions in her Class and finished runner-up in the Aggregate for the weekend earning her promotion to the next class, and winning the British Junior Championship.
We were one person short for two Junior Teams, so we “borrowed” a pupil from ESMS. The A Team, Isabel, Sam and Magnus won the British Junior Team Championship, while the B Team of Rory, Lucy and Katie took second place - a result has never been achieved by school teams in the past!
Scottish Schools Fencing Championships Results
Zoë Wagstaff (S1) won bronze in the Under 14 Girls Sabre, and Silver in the Under 14 Girls Epee, giving her the U14 Girls Master-at-Arms title, awarded for the best performance in each category over all three weapons. Esme Wilding (S5) competed for the first time and reached 5th place, just missing out on a medal in her O16 Girls' Epee category. Their combined efforts meant that George Watson's College came 3rd in the girls' school rankings.
Congratulations to our U18 team for getting to the semi-finals, and to the U16 team for making it to the finals of the Scottish Rugby Schools Championship.
Congratulations also go to every rugby player and coach in the Senior School from S1-S6 who helped the us win the Scottish Rugby/Mitsubishi Schools Colt Conference for a second consecutive year!
The Boys' 1st XI will play in the semi final of the Scottish Schools Cup in March 2019, and the Girls' 1st XI are in the quarter final of the Scottish Schools Cup. Good luck to both teams!
