Sir Chris Hoy Comes Back to School

Sir Chris Hoy talks with pupilsIt has been quite a year for one of our Former Pupils. Triple Gold Medallist at the Beijing Olympics, BBC Sports Personality of the Year and knighted in the New Years Honours List, yet Sir Chris Hoy, MBE, took some time out of his very busy schedule to come back to his old School on Thursday.

During the morning he saw over 1600 pupils, and answered questions about his time at school, his training, his life away from cycling, and lots more besides, answering the questions with honesty, humour and humility.

He spent time with the children in the Nursery, where he was asked possibly the most difficult questions of the day, and where he allowed the children to see and touch one of his gold medals. Here his patience and warmth was evident, as he spoke to every child, making every one feel special.

Mr Gareth Edwards, Principal, said, 'We have had a great day. The children have much enjoyed Sir Chris' visit and have been inspired. I can think of no better role model for young people everywhere than Chris, whose dedication and talent are equally matched by his charm and self-effacement.'

After the visit, Sir Chris thanked everyone at Watson's for making the day so special and one that he will remember. He certainly gave everyone at Watson's a day they will remember.
