S4s with their John Muir AwardsLast week we were delighted to welcome Sarah Outen to Watson’s. In 2009 Sarah rowed solo across the Indian Ocean, 4,000 miles in 124 days setting three Guinness World Records – first woman and youngest person to row solo across the Indian Ocean and youngest woman to solo any ocean.

Those who heard her speak during her time with us marveled at her determination, bravery and fortitude – an inspiration.

During her time with us, she presented 114 John Muir Discovery Awards to S4 pupils who took part when they participated in S3 Projects in May. Sarah is a big supporter of the John Muir Trust, which has worked with us for several years in conjunction with S3 Projects. She is passionate about the importance of undertaking your own challenges and the importance of protecting wild places, so it was fitting that she helped celebrate the success of S3 Projects. For Watson's pupils the challenges they face and the lessons they learn on Projects form a key experience in their Watson's life.
