The Music SchoolThis year we are planning two very exciting events to promote solo and chamber music playing in School. As part of the RIADA Trust’s sponsorship of the Robin Adair Honours Ensembles and Masterclasses last year, we featured performances by our violinists, cellists and saxophone players in front of distinguished visiting musicians. This year we have decided to focus on the clarsach and the piano.

Thursday 23 February 2012
The exciting young Scottish harpist Catriona McKay will be spending the morning working with our clarsach players on ensemble music in the Auditorium.

Friday 24 February 2012
Anna Mavromatidi a member of the piano department at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland will be visiting us. This morning will begin at 9am with a talk by Dr Andrew Watson from our Art Department on Claude Debussy and Impressionism. Following this our pianists will be able to explore aspects of French Impressionism with Anna Mavromatidi and work at jazz improvisation with Richard Harrold – the most recent addition to our team of visiting piano teachers.

On both of these dates there will be lunchtime concerts involving the ensembles and masterclass participants starting at approx 1.00pm in the Music School Auditorium. Parents and friends are most welcome to sit in on the events throughout the mornings, and are warmly invited to the lunchtime concerts.

The Robin Adair Young Musicians’ Concert will take place this year on 1 May 2012 at 7.00pm in the Music School Auditorium, and will feature many of our most talented performers playing solo and in ensembles.
