The Music SchoolIn September last year we announced that the Senior School Young Musician of the Year Competition would be replaced. Instead, we would create Robin Adair Honours Ensembles and organise masterclasses to promote solo and chamber music at Watson’s.

The RIADA Trust have kindly agreed to sponsor a series of Robin Adair Masterclasses with distinguished musicians, which will benefit all our musicians. As an important part of our Music Calendar these will be open to the public.

We are delighted to confirm the following events taking place in the Music School:

Friday 18 February 2011

Japanese violinist Kanako Ito, former concert mistress of Kansas Symphony Orchestra, and cellist Martin Storey, principal cellist of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, will deliver the first Robin Adair Masterclass between 10.30am – 3.00pm.

Friday 25 February 2011

Andrew Somerville, a professional saxophonist and former GWC pupil will hold a saxophone masterclass. We will be joined by some pupils from Firrhill High School for this masterclass which will last from 9.00am – 1.30pm.

On both of these dates there will also be a lunchtime concert involving the masterclass participants, starting at approx 12.50pm in the Music School Auditorium.

Our teachers will invite as many of their pupils, who are at the correct level, as possible to take part, and for pupils learning outwith School further information is available from Mr Hector Scott.

Parents are invited to sit in on the masterclasses and are warmly invited to the lunchtime concerts when participants will perform.

News of the Junior School House Music Competition, to be held in April, will follow in due course. We would also remind you that we are holding a Robin Adair Young Musicians Concert on the evening of 2 May 2011 in the Music School Auditorium.
