Reflections on a Cricketing Weekend

Reflections on a Cricketing Weekend

Published on 13 November 2017

Group of cricket playersOver this weekend (11/12 November 2017) Lydia Greenway, MCC coach, carried out a two-day coaching clinic for George Watsons College Girls’ Cricket Club in the Centre for Sport. With the recent success of winning the Scottish Cup in 2017, it was great to see so many players attend these sessions, with a total of 24 attending over the two days.

Lydia came up with many different enjoyable cricket drills and games for us all to play. All the girls really enjoyed the experience and the coaching from Lydia, finding that they benefited from the range of practice drills from accurate throwing to hitting targets.

Lydia’s experience includes playing for England for 13 years and playing in 126 One Day Internationals, which is very impressive. We were all delighted that she could share her time, knowledge, coaching expertise and skill with our group.

On the first day, the focus was on fielding, with a mixture of drills including a game at the end called tornado cricket. The second day we worked on areas such as bowling and batting with the help of Sarah Bryce (Class of 2017) and international cricketer.

Overall I think that the two-day session was beneficial for all. Thanks again to Lydia, and to Miss Liz Smith who organised everything for the team.
