Record number of GWC pupils studying Advanced Higher Mathematics, Statistics and Mechanics

Record number of GWC pupils studying Advanced Higher Mathematics, Statistics and Mechanics

Published on 28 January 2020

More GWC pupils than ever before are studying Mathematics, Statistics, and Mechanics at Advanced Higher level.

The Mathematics Department currently has 75 pupils studying one or more of these courses, with a total of 96 exam presentations, making this the highest number of Advanced Higher candidates and presentations to date. The number of students taking up these courses and presenting for exams has been growing year on year.

Information from the Scottish Qualifications Authority for the 2019 exam diet shows that, per centre, the average number of AH Mathematics candidates was 11.5, for AH Mechanics it was 4.5 and for AH Statistics it was 8.2.

For each of these courses, the number of our pupils studying is well in excess of these averages.

We can only attribute this to the quality of teaching within the department, the interest the pupils have in studying these disciplines at this level and the dedication they have shown throughout their study of mathematics.
