On Saturday 26 April, ten-year-old Kathryn Bryce, took a hat-trick against Sedbergh School from Lancashire. This is the first time a female pupil has done so in any 1st XI match and is all the more remarkable in that she was playing against S5 and S6 girls. She bowled two and caught one to find her way into the record books.
Kathryn was awarded the Player of the Tournament award at the Cricket Scotland National Junior Indoor Tournament in March and has now taken four 1st XI wickets in the first three matches of the season.
'Kathryn is a extraordinary young cricketer who has both the talent and the temperament to go far in the game”, said Liz Smith, Watson’s girls’ cricket coach. “Her hat-trick against Sedbergh was the first ever achieved in a 1st XI match in the 20 years that Watson's girls have been playing competitive matches against other school and club sides and is obviously remarkable in the sense that she is still only in Primary 6.”
