Pipes & Drums Take Canada by Storm

The drumsThe pipe band has had a successful competition weekend at the Antigonish Highland Games in Canada.

Myles McIntyre (Class of 2011) won best Grade 1 drummer, while John Benson (Class of 2009) won the Senior Professional drummer and Cameron Spence (S4) won Grade 2 MSR drumming.

Pipers Calum Watson (S5) won the Grade 1 March, Strathspey & Reel (MSR) competition and Calum Young (S4) won the Grade 2 Strathspey and Reel.

Other solo prize winners included pipers Euan Kerr, Andrew Timmons (both Class of 2011), Ross Blair, Nick Hurn (both S6) and Fraser Anderson (S5). Drummers Daniel Williamson (Class of 2011), Chris Trew, Fraser Hood (both S6), Josif Grace (S5) and Blair Thomson (S4) also won solo prizes.

In the band competition, our bass section won Best Bass Section of the Day beating a Grade 1 band in the process. The band won the Nova Scotia Grade 3 Championships and finished second in Grade 2 on Saturday and won both Grade 3 and Grade 2 Atlantic Canada Championships on the Sunday. The drum corps had a clean sweep winning all four competitions.

However the pupils "winning streak" came to an end on Monday when they were beaten 5-2 by the staff & parents at football.
