Pipes and Drums Start Season with a Bang

Pipes and Drums Start Season with a Bang

Published on 29 March 2019

It has been a fantastic start to the season for all three of our bands.

The Juvenile band made it two wins from three at the indoor competitions. A first place at our own GWC Invitational Competition on 3 March was followed by another win at the Glasgow Highland Club on 24 March. They were also runners up at the Scottish Schools' Pipe Band Championships on 10 March with the drummers claiming top spot at all three competitions. The band is hitting great form as they work towards the outdoor competition season.

Not to be outdone, our Novice Juvenile A band took the title of 2019 Scottish Schools' Champions in their grade for the third year in succession.

Our Novice Juvenile B band was placed first in their grade at the GWC Invitational competition and were placed second at the Scottish Schools' in the NJB grade.

GWC Pipes & Drums were well represented with numerous awards in the solo piping & drumming events at the three indoor competitions. This was topped by James Strachan (S6) taking first place in the Senior drumming and Freddie Somerville (S1) taking first place in the Junior drumming  competitions at the Glasgow Highland Club.

All in all, a great start to the 2019 season as we look forward to the outdoor competitions beginning in May.
