On Friday 18 July 2003 the Pipes & Drums departed on a seven day trip to the beautiful Russian city of St Petersburg.

17 boys and 4 girls took part in the trip and treated the people of St Petersburg to several traditional Pipe Band performances at most of the major historical sites in and around their city. The band were very well received throughout our stay and to quote a number of locals, ‘Please come back again’.

Highlights included playing at the Peter and Paul Fortress, a garden party hosted by H.M. Consul General Barbara Hay, several appearances on Russian TV and a performance at Petrodvorets where we met an old friend of the school, Mrs Val Gerstenberg, our former Principal’s wife. It is indeed a small world.

A month later, the Pipes and Drums were back on Scottish soil for their annual appearance at the World Pipe Band Championships. The competition took place on Saturday 16 August at Glasgow Green. Both of our bands played in their respective grades and featured prominently in the prize lists.
