pipe band march past Merchant Navy Memorial in LeithOnly two months after the George Watson’s Pipes & Drums were invited to play for the Queen at Braemar Gathering, they have had the privilege of playing for another member of the Royal Family.

The occasion this time was the unveiling of a memorial to commemorate those members of the Merchant Navy who had lost their lives in times of conflict and peace.

Following a church service our Pipes & Drums proudly led a parade of current and ex servicemen and women from South Leith Parish Church to The Shore, where the Princess Royal officially unveiled the memorial before a large gathering of invited guests.

The band was invited to play by Professor Gordon Milne, a trustee of the Merchant Navy Trust, and it was fitting that his grandson Christopher (S1) took part in the ceremony with the band.
