Published on 6 February 2018

PE Teacher, Sarah Wilson (Class of 2006) found out yesterday that she had been voted FiH (International Hockey Federation) Female Umpire of the Year. She is in the FIH top umpiring group – meaning she is one of the top 16 umpires in the world, and has umpired at the Olympics, including the bronze medal match between Germany and New Zealand.

Sarah is very humble about her achievements, and is looking forward to “an incredibly busy year ahead; with the Commonwealth Games and World Cup – there’s so much to look forward to and I just can’t wait to get my teeth stuck into it, I’m really looking forward to the future.”

Melvyn Roffe, Principal, said, “Sarah is a great ambassador for Scottish Hockey and for George Watson's College. I warmly congratulate her on being recognised by her peers as one of the very best umpires in the world."
