Primary 6 Boys' Football Squad at the competitionOur P6 boys’ football squad travelled through to Toryglen Regional Football Centre in Glasgow on Monday to play in the Lloyds TSB Scotland Scottish Schools’ Football Junior Sevens Finals. This was a fantastic experience in a top class soccer facility, with the added bonus of a set of strips given to each school in the finals by the competition sponsors.

There were two four-team groups, with GWC being drawn with Bargeddie Primary, Knowetop Primary from Motherwell and Milltimber Primary School from Aberdeen.

The boys played fantastic football, beating eventual runners-up Bargeddie 2–1, losing 2–1 to Knowetop and drawing 1–1 with Milltimber. All the games were very close and could have gone either way. The boys then won a play off for 5th/6th place against Moorfoot Primary from Gourock, again a tight game finishing 2–1.

Backing up an outstanding display in goal from Matthew Buchanan, Ben Wilson and Fraser Kinloch played brilliantly in defence. Jamie Stephen, Fraser Heigh, Oliver Martin, Euan Cockburn and Fin Stewart displayed skilled and committed play in midfield. Up front, Ben Logie and Ewan Evans were excellent. The goal scorers were Fraser Kinloch, Fraser Heigh, Oliver Martin and Fin Stewart. This was a great team effort, and the boys should be rightly proud of fifth place in a competition, which had over 600 schools taking part.

The boys watched an exciting final, where Cramond Primary School beat Bargeddie 2–1 to lift the title. They then got back in the minibus and set off for Meigle where they were to join their classmates at Belmont Camp. A pretty good day all round!
