The first Millionaires toasting their achievementsThis morning the first, exclusive meeting of the Junior School Millionaire Club was hosted in the Upper Primary Library for pupils that have read over a million words so far this session.

Since August, 16 pupils in the Upper Primary – one from Primary 4, five from Primary 6, and 10 from Primary 7 –have each read over a million words. Indeed one boy has actually read over 2 million! However perhaps more importantly, each passed a quiz on every book to demonstrate their understanding of the story.

We celebrated in the library with millionaire shortbread and a glass of 'bubbly' whilst discussing books and recommending what to read over the Christmas holidays. Who will gain membership to this exclusive club next term?

Some interesting statistics (for August to December):
102,377,367 words read, in total, by pupils in Primary 4 to Primary 7
3,330 books read by pupils in Primary 4 to Primary 7
