It was opened by Gavin Hastings OBE, a former pupil, former British Lions Captain and a current parent at the School. Gavin is a strong supporter of Watson’s vision for sport and a Patron of the George Watson’s Family Foundation. As he says, “I want pupils at Watson’s to have the best possible experience of a wide ranging Physical Education curriculum, and I am committed to its success.”

The new facility offers flexibility to take account of the needs of the curriculum. It also helps to provide a useful resource to the local community.

The Hall represents Phase 2 of the George Watson’s College Centre for Sport. This three phase project is being built to help deliver the School’s vision – to provide a first-class learning environment, encouraging all-round excellence and community use.

Gareth Edwards, Principal said, “We pride ourselves on our sporting record. As a leading Scottish school, we have a duty to nurture a lifelong interest in physical activity as part of a healthy and fulfilling life and we are keen to provide facilities that can be used by our local community.”
