OBE for Former Chairman of Governors

galleon on top of Senior SchoolCongratulations to former Chairman of Governors of George Watson's College, Professor Niall Lothian, who has been awarded an OBE in the Queen's New Year Honours for services to Corporate and Civic Governance in Scotland.

Niall Lothian served on the Governing Council from 1994 to 2004 and as Chairman from 1999 to 2004. 

Having spent many years as Professor of Accounting at Heriot-Watt University, Niall is now a member of the international faculty of INSEAD Fontainebleau and ESMT Berlin, two of Europe’s leading business schools. He is also involved in management development for numerous global companies.

He has also served as a Governor of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and was Chairman of the Advisory Audit Board of the Scottish Parliamentary Corporate Body. He is currently chairman of Inspiring Scotland, a venture philanthropy trust.

Gareth Edwards, Principal said: "I am delighted that Niall has been awarded an OBE. This is a much-merited award for a man who has given so much of his time and expertise to a range of charitable institutions in Scotland. He has been a close friend since appointing me in 2000 and Watson's and I, personally, owe Niall a huge debt of gratitude for his dedication to, and support of, the School over many years."
