A team of four pupils; Zoe Mack-Smith, Jonathan Stark (both S3), Catriona Sinclair & Michael Brown (both S4) went to Glasgow University recently to represent Watson's in the finals of the Scottish Enterprising Maths Competition.
The event was attended by 56 schools from across Scotland, including a team from the Nicolson Institute in Stornoway who joined in via video link, and was fiercely competitive from start to finish.
After finishing second in the qualifying event held at here in September, the team were expected to do well and they did not disappoint. After completing a number of different tasks including problem solving, practical puzzles and an actuarial themed round, it was too close to call at the top of the leaderboard with the final round remaining.
Through a combination of excellent mathematical skills and lightning quick speed around the arena, the George Watson's College team excelled in the final relay round, and were crowned the Scottish Enterprising Maths Champions 2011.
