Pupils in the Junior and Senior Schools are involved in an environmental arts competition encompassing both visual art and creative writing in the Merchiston area. The competition is aimed at pupils in local schools within the age group of P6-S2, with litter and waste workshops and local area clean-ups offered as part of the programme in participating schools.
Author Ron Butler worked with 22 children from P6 and P7 to create limericks and descriptive writing and artist and sculptor Karen Clulow talked about creating jewellery etc using only rubbish. Both visitors offered guidance and advice on how to present their entries.
The children will be working hard to complete their writing and art work before presenting it to be judged by a panel. Some of the completed work will then be displayed locally. The winning entry will be made into a professional poster, which will then be displayed throughout the Merchiston area or possibly as bookmarks, which will be distributed by the city's libraries.
