This weekend our rowers raced at the Scottish Schools' Head of the Canal races, on the Union Canal from Dullatur to the Auchinstarry Basin. Some excellent results included our boys winning the Wylie Cup for the fastest school crew.
Our senior girls’ coxed four – Lauren Cory, Amy Holt, Monica Tandon, Hannah Watson, and cox Julie McDonald (all S5) – won he Schools’ U16 pennant. Lauren Cory and Amy Holt, joined by Hannah Knowles (S5) and Kirsten Simpson (S6) won the Schools’ WJ18 quads event. An U16 crew – Marisa Chisholm (S4), Hannah Watson, and Monica Tandon, joined by a substitute from George Heriot’s – was the fastest girls’ U16 crew, and Monica Tandon won the Open Girls’ U16 single scull.
Our senior boys’ coxed four – Euan Dickerson, Fergus Mainland, cox Hannah Watson (all S5), Alex Chisholm and Ben Carruthers (both S6) – won the boys’ U16 Schools’ event. They raced again in the Open Division with Finlay Aitken (S4) coxing, finishing the second fastest crew overall, winning the Open U16 pennant and beating the Aberdeen U18 coxed four that was selected to represent Scotland at the Home International Regatta in July. On the second day they raced in the Open Junior Quad and were again the second fastest overall crew and the fastest School crew, winning the Wylie Cup.
The Beginners and Novices squads again performed well, with Aidan Poon (S4) and Juan Castellanos (S3) winning the Schools’ U15 double sculls event; and Rory Mainland and Peter Demyanov (both S2) winning Open U14 double sculls. Anna Buchanan (S3) won the Open Girls’ U14 single scull.
