Some of our pupils celebrated after it was revealed their efforts in last year’s Edinburgh Marathon Festival had resulted in George Watson’s College winning the Junior Schools’ competition, with what was the lowest average position in the races, when all our pupils positions were added up and averaged out.
Apart from the trophy which arrived this week, the pupils have won £250 of sports equipment for the School.
More than 600 youngsters from across the country competed in the junior races at the Edinburgh Marathon Festival in May last year. Our pupils either competed in the 3km race for 11–14 year olds or the 1.5km race for six to 10 year olds.
Thomas Snodgrass (S2) finished third in the 3k race with an impressive time of 10 minutes, 45 seconds, shaving a minute off his time last year and grabbing himself a place on the podium.
Thomas said: "I love running and it is a great way to be active, have fun and keep fit. There is a great buzz at the Marathon Festival with loads of people round Arthur's Seat so I hope to run again this year.”
Alex (P3) was the only girl who participated and she completed the 1.5k race in 10 minutes. The rest of the team were Archie (P4), Gregor and Struan (P5), Calum (P6) and Luke, George, and Findlay (all P7).
