Marathon Efforts

Girls rowingOn Sunday our rowers were out in force at the Boston rowing marathon. A 50km (31 mile) course from Lincoln to Boston, this is a very demanding race, especially for our more junior inexperienced rowers, and to complete the course is a major achievement – but all nine crews that entered from GWC did.

Performances of particular note included our fastest crew of the day, the mixed Junior U18 coxless quad of Callum Stephen and Matthew Rankin (both S6) and Emma Rankin and Robyn Gillies (both S4). They completed the course in 4h 09m 59s winning their event in a new record time. The previous record was 5h 15m 41s.

Our second mixed Junior U18 coxless quad (Sarah Duff, Rebecca Lowden, and Alex Frew (all S5) and Andrew Connal (S4)) also beat the old record time finishing the course in 4h 40m 16s.

Emily Colley (S6) won the Women’s U18 single scull event in a time of 4h 52m 26s. It is a very long, lonely race in a single scull, but it gave her the ideal time to develop her sculling technique.

Amazingly, our rowing club now holds thirteen of the course records for this demanding event.
