Making and Breaking Climbing Equipment

Jim McCormack visited the School to give a fascinating talk about the design and manufacture of climbing gear.

Jim, from climbing company DMM, used a tensile tester to show some destructive testing of climbing gear, and brought various manufacturing samples to show material properties and how the climbing equipment is manufactured.

His talk in the department was extremely interesting and our Higher Engineering Science and Design and Technology IB students really enjoyed seeing the climbing gear being tested to destruction.

It was a 'smashing' time for all. He then gave a talk in the Music School to some of our younger pupils who also enjoyed his talk and demo.
