Leap for Meningitis

Pupils from our sixth year helped get the Leap for Meningitis off the ground when they joined Olivia Giles to launch the schools' part of this initiative.

Olivia, whose limbs had to be amputated below the knees and elbows after contracting meningitis, made a big impact on Watson's when she spoke to our pupils as part of last year's S5 Life Skills programme. Olivia's account of her own experience was particularly powerful in increasing our pupils' knowledge and understanding of meningitis.

Leap for Meningitis is Olivia’s personal initiative and is aimed at raising awareness of the disease and its symptoms, as well as generating valuable funds for meningitis charities. The main events will take place on the leap year weekend, in February 2004. During the weekend, pupils from our S6 will join school children from all over Edinburgh to take part in a 12-hour sponsored Strip The Willow and our own Pipe Band will welcome guests to a charity ball at the EICC.
