Our pupils in action in the Semifinals held at GWC earlier this termFour of our pupils represented Scotland in the national finals of the Eurotalk Junior Language Challenge at London Olympia on Friday and came home with the best results ever for GWC!

Benjamin Hemmati, Adam Mallis, Alex Harraghy (all P6) and Nikita Zamvar (P7) were amongst the forty finalists from throughout the UK, chosen from the thousands of children who had taken part in the earlier rounds.

Our pupils had to compete against the clock using their knowledge of the final chosen language, Luganda, which they had only had just over a month to learn.

Three of our pupils made it to the top 12 playoff. The competition was very exciting and nerve wracking and the standard was very high.

Nikita remained amazingly cool and calm under pressure, gaining a place in the final top 12 play off and came in only a few points behind the leaders. Adam performed very well in his heat, gaining a place in final play off and coming fifth over all. Alex performed brilliantly in his heat and came second in the whole competition and receiving a Nintendo 3DS! All the children received medals, certificates and vouchers for language software for themselves and for the School.

Well done to our pupils for all their hard work and enthusiasm in learning three languages in six months – Portuguese, Kazakh and Luganda.
