The Scottish Schools' Head and Sculling Head saw the season kick off for our rowers. With over 200 boats racing across the weekend Watson's came back with 12 school wins and the joint fastest crew of the whole weekend.
Saturday saw the senior athletes racing in coxed fours and younger athletes racing in quads. The J18 four – Fergus Mainland and Euan Dickerson (S6), Aidan Poon and Ruairi Potter (S5) and cox Charley Carmichael (S4) – were the fastest school coxed four, beating George Heriots into second place by 30 seconds. The boys then switched to sculling on the Sunday and raced well given the lack of crew experience. They were the fastest school quad and produced the joint fastest time of the weekend with Aberdeen Schools Rowing Association.
Further wins on Saturday came from the S2 girls – Isla Sinnott, Jennifer Heine, Imogen Blain, Robyn Douglas and cox Mhairi Arnott – who won both schoolgirls and open WJ14 4x+. The J14 boys won the school boy coxed quad event too.
Sunday saw all crews switch to sculling and Watson's crews won eight school events. These wins were: J14 and J15 4x+, WJ18 and WJ14 quads and WJ14 2x. Rory Mainland (S3) won both schoolboy and open J14 1x. Not to be outdone, Anna Buchanan (S4) won schoolgirl and open J15 1x. The WJ15 4x+ also won both schoolgirl and open.
