George Watson's College is pleased to announce its first ever results for those students who took the Diploma Programme from August 2011 to June 2013.
All students have completed and achieved the Diploma by passing in all six subject disciplines and the core components of the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Action & Service. They now look forward to the next stage in their education and Higher Education courses.
The maximum possible a candidate can score is 45 points which is secured by a tiny percentage of candidates worldwide. Of our 15 candidates, eight achieved 36 points or more with three gaining scores ranging from a highly impressive 41 to 43. Although there is no direct means of comparing IB results with the School's usual high performance in SQA examinations, these results reflect:
- 100% pass rate
- 67% of candidates achieving the broad equivalent of As and Bs in 5 Highers and 3 Advanced Highers
- 47% of candidates achieving the broad equivalent of straight As in 5 Highers and 3 Advanced Highers.
Gareth Edwards, Principal, said: "I am full of admiration for the students who have achieved so much through their study of the IB; I congratulate them all on their fine results and achieving the Diploma. After several years of research, implementation and staff training, it is also very gratifying that my colleagues' professional enthusiasm for a new curriculum has been rewarded with such deserved success. I have no doubt that the IB will continue to be a popular alternative curriculum alongside SQA in the years ahead".
