Pupils being put through their pacesSenior pupils took part in the final of the inaugural House Marching competition at lunchtime today. The competition saw the pupils pitted against each another in their respective Houses, with the winners being chosen by the Garrison Sergeant Major of the Edinburgh Army Garrison.

Over four lunch times, the pupils – who had no cadet or military experience – learned basic marching skills, with one pupil in each House giving the marching commands.

Training was given by four experienced soldiers under the watchful eye of GSM Surgeon. The winning House was Cockburn Greyfriars and they have been invited to go to Edinburgh Castle to watch the firing of the 1 o’clock gun from the VIP area.

This was a follow on to the fundraising for Red and White and Blue day, which is run annually by the UK’s three national Armed Forces charities; ABF The Soldiers’ Charity, the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund, and The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity. Over the past few years the School has raised over £12,000 for the charity.
