High Winds - UPDATE - School Closing at Lunchtime

Published on by Mr Gareth Edwards Categories: Senior School,  Junior School

Galleon on top of School Given the heightened uncertainty over transport disruption and understandable concern being expressed by parents, the School WILL CLOSE today at lunchtime, though lunch will still be served. This will mean a 12 noon finish for Nursery & Junior School and a 12.35pm finish for Senior School.

After school activities will not take place nor After School Club/Nursery Plus. However, parents of children who require to be picked-up will be looked after for however long is necessary.

The following has been posted on the Scottish Government Website.

"The Scottish Government's Resilience Committee met to receive the latest advice from the Met Office's Chief Forecaster and the Association of Chief Police Officer (ACPOS) showing that winds gusting up to 90mph are now due to hit western areas of Scotland, the central belt and large parts of the south of the country from as early as 7am in the extreme west with the strongest winds expected from 12 noon in Glasgow and west-central areas and 3pm in the east of the Central belt, lasting through into the evening.

Police have advised tonight that there is now a probability that this will see them increase their warning to drivers to the highest level in many parts of the country.

This expert advice has led Ministers to advise that for safety reasons councils across the affected areas should, in western parts of the country, not open schools in the morning, and in eastern areas close early at noon ahead of the most dangerous conditions arriving, and to advise parents and staff of their intentions at the earliest opportunity."
