The Governing Council and Principal are delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Gordon Boyd as Head of the Senior School at George Watson's College from August 2016. He will take over from Mrs Heather Wilson who retires after 16 years of exceptional service to the School.
Gordon Boyd was born and brought up in Edinburgh where he attended The Edinburgh Academy before taking a degree in English at the University of Aberdeen. He qualified as a teacher at the University of Cambridge and began his career in Zambia with Voluntary Service Overseas.
He has had extensive teaching and leadership experience in a variety of schools culminating in eight successful years as Head of City of Norwich School. Most recently, he has served as Assistant Director, Education, for Norfolk County Council.
Gordon is married to Helen and has three children. He enjoys swimming, skiing and running half marathons, among other interests.
Commenting on his appointment Gordon said: "I am delighted to have been given this opportunity to return to Edinburgh to lead the Senior School at George Watson's College. It is a privilege to become part of this vibrant and highly successful school and I look forward to meeting the pupils, parents and staff over the coming months."
Principal, Melvyn Roffe said: “Gordon had an outstanding reputation in Norfolk when I worked there and I look forward to working closely with him at Watson’s on his return to Edinburgh.“
