The Juvenile Band at this year's European ChampionshipsThe MG ALBA Scots Trad Music Awards 2012 were held in the Nevis Centre, Fort William on Saturday evening.

We were delighted to hear that the George Watson's College's Juvenile Band was voted the Pipe Band of the Year, following the successful completion of a second consecutive grand slam of major championship wins. Currently the band is Scottish, British, European, World and Cowal Championship winners.

Pipe Major Iain Simpson was in Fort William to accept the award on behalf of the band.

We were also delighted to hear that Clarsach teacher, Isobel Mieras, was voted the recipient of the Hamish Henderson Award for Services to Traditional Music. Every pupil or parent who has ever witnessed the traditional Harps of Gold concert at the Queen's Hall each December will know exactly why she won the award.

This was the 10th annual awards and it was the first time that the awards ceremony had been televised live on BBC Alba.
