Over the holidays we were delighted when Scotland announced their largest ever Aquatics Team in Commonwealth Games history for the home games in Glasgow this summer. Thirty eight swimmers and two divers were chosen, and George Watson's College was proud as both divers are current pupils.
Grace Reid (S6) is a Commonwealth Games veteran, having made her debut as the youngest Scottish competitor in Delhi four years ago, while James Heatly (S5) follows his grandfather, Sir Peter Heatly, who in the course of his Commonwealth Games career won three Commonwealth gold medals, a silver and a bronze. Grace will feature in the 1m Springboard competition, while James will be on the 3m Springboard.
Gareth Edwards, Principal, said, "These selections follow years of hard work and dedication, often early in the morning, and we are proud of both Grace and James. They can be sure that the whole Watson's family will be cheering them on in the summer, and I wish them both every success diving in what is their second home, the Commonwealth Pool.
Swimmer Craig Hamilton (Class of 2009) will be joining James and Grace in the Scotland Aquatics team and will participate in the 1500m Freestyle competition, although he will swim at Tollcross in Glasgow.
