Good Performances from Rowers in Newcastle

Rowing - close up of the oar in the waterOn Saturday 29 November the George Watson's College Rowing Club Senior Squad travelled to Newcastle to compete at Rutherford Head of the River Race, held on a 4500m course from Scotswood to Newburn.

The event attracted a bumper entry, with 135 boats starting in Division 1 and 129 in Division 2, and clubs coming from as far afield as Maidstone, London, Manchester, and Lancaster in England and Scottish crews from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen.

Watson's crews performed well in both divisions, with the Boys' Coxed Four – Euan Dickerson (S4), Alasdair Watson, Oliver Fenton, James Stevenson, and cox Rebecca Moore (all S6), and the Coxless Quad – Fergus Mainland (S4), Ben Carruthers, Duncan Kuwall (both S5) and Struan Stewart (S6) both finishing second; and the Girls' Quad – Errin Gall, Isla Ferguson, Katy McDonald and Holly Cook (all S6) finishing third in their respective categories.
