Good Luck to our Watsonians

Good Luck to our Watsonians

Published on 4 April 2018

Watsonians are, once again, well represented and, to the best of our knowledge, the following have been selected as Athletes, Team Management and Technical Officials:

Christine Black (nee Heatly, Class of 1972) – Badminton Team Manager
Gillian Cooke (Class of 2000) – Digital Media Manager
Zachary Courtney (Class of 2012) – Weightlifting
Mairi Drummond (Class of 2011) - Hockey
Cameron Fraser (Class of 2006) – Hockey
Chris Grassick (Class of 2008) – Hockey
James Heatly (Class of 2015) – Diving
Grace Reid (Class of 2014) – Diving
Duncan Riddell (Class of 2011) – Hockey
David Sweetman (Class of 1999) – Hockey Umpire
Sarah Wilson (Class of 2006) – Hockey Umpire

We are also delighted to invite all Watsonians and families of our participants to an informal 'gathering' on Monday 9 April between 1 and 4pm in the 'Nosh Restaurant Bar' in the Mantra on View Hotel, 22 View Avenue, Surfers Paradise, QLD 4217, Australia.

Similar to previous Commonwealth Games, this will be an informal event and any Watsonians who are in the area are encouraged to drop in, even if it's only for a few minutes.

Robert Heatly MBE, Watsonian Club President, will be there and looks forward to meeting as many Watsonians as possible in this unique sporting, friendly and Scottish location.

Note that the Mantra on View Hotel is also the home of 'Scotland House' which is the 'home from home' for Scottish athletes and their families, friends, coaches and supporters. Scotland House will hold various activities including a small exhibition of previous Games, focusing on those held in Australia. And, keeping the Watsonian connection going, the manager of Scotland House is Catriona Valentine (Class of 2007) from Visit Scotland.

As such, the Mantra on View Hotel is an ideal meeting point for all Scottish supporters at any point throughout the Games, particularly those with a Watsonian connection. Finally, please note that some of the athletes and officials intend to drop in, competition and training permitting.
