For the 13 million people living in poverty in the UK, Christmas can be one of the most challenging periods of the year. In fact, across the country, food banks are bracing themselves for a surge in families in need of emergency supplies – predicting their busiest month ever.
Watson’s has supported the North Leith Foodbank Centre for many years. This year, staff collections from bake sales and Christmas card sales raised £300 for donation, while as part of their end of year Modern Studies project work, our S4 pupils took part in the ‘£5 challenge’, investing £5 of their own money to raise as much as they could for the foodbank by washing cars, making and selling cakes and cards etc.
Each class then goes to Tesco to spend their hard-earned cash on food donations. Today over £400 worth of food donations will be transported to the North Leith foodbank.
