Engineering skills put to the test

A team from Watson's has seen their hard work and technical expertise rewarded at the Greenpower racing competition last Friday.

Team Velox have been building their electric powered single-seater race car over the last year. The competition requires them to engineer, build and race their own electric vehicle to compete in two 90-minute races.  This event, at the Grampian Transport Museum in Alford, was their first race and they finished fourth and fifth out of 12 teams that entered.

They also won Best Newcomer and the Spirit of Greenpower award for their engineering and driving skills and their presentation to the judges and race scrutineers.

This was a great event and achievement for the team and the Design, Technology and Engineering department. To build a car and have the reliability to make it last the whole race is impressive, but to be so competitive in their first race is an outstanding feat.

The pupils involved are: Stephen Addison, Dominic De Monfalcon, Dennis Diaz (all S3), Erin Edmonstone, Morven Pennie (awarded best team driver) and Aidan Poon (all S4).
