Edinburgh Rugby will continue to play their home matches at George Watson's College's Myreside pitch for the next three seasons, with a select number of fixtures returning to BT Murrayfield in the 2017/18 season.
Following a six-game trial in season 2016/17, both the School and the club undertook a thorough review of the trial, involving consultation with parents and staff being consulted along with members of The Watsonian Club, Edinburgh Rugby supporters, local residents, and players.
The feedback demonstrated some strong support for the partnership to continue, along with a wish to develop the matchday experience at Myreside. It also identified areas that need to be addressed from the point of view of those who responded.
It has therefore been agreed that Edinburgh will play at least nine home matches at Myreside in the coming season with a select few fixtures, including the annual 1872 Cup clash, being played at BT Murrayfield.
George Watson’s College Principal, Melvyn Roffe, said: "We look forward to building on the success of the pilot that took place last season, working with Edinburgh Rugby to upgrade the facilities around the Myreside pitch over the next couple of years. The partnership with Edinburgh Rugby will also generate significant additional resources for the School. We will ensure that these are used to upgrade facilities which can be used by pupils, parents, the wider Watson's community and members of the local community. We see this very much as a ‘win-win’ partnership - and hope it ushers in a new period of success for Edinburgh both on and off the field.”
